God,that record is worth listening to ,if just for the sake of Cliff Gallup`s solos. He is superb on that track..Apparently Cliff was offered good contracts as a solo artist but he turned them down ,preferring to bring up his 2 children in a stable home life, when he quit Genes` Blue Caps.
The best story I ever heard about Gene Vincent was when he was playing in Germany he made friends with the Beatles who were still in their rocker phase, and George Harrison said one day Gene told him to come with him to kick some guys ass who was nailing Genes girlfriend, and they got all the way to the door of this hotel room and Gene was about to kick down the door when he handed George a handgun and George said he freaked and gave it back and took off ha ha. Gene was bad ass!
I was about 12 years old when this song came out. I thought he was singing about a guy called Blue Jean Bob, not Bop. My mother had just bought me a pair of blue jeans. Great I thought, I'm Blue Jean Bob as well, now, wearing these jeans. It's only now, with the Internet, that we can learn the true words to songs..
Great shame the bottle did for him. It's easy to get on the slippery slope. I spend lot of time preaching about the dangers of alcohol abuse., I was well on the way myself, but saw the light and quit drinking. I won't even have a glass of sherry at Christmas now. After a short time, you just don't miss the stuff. The Devils Brew, it is, if ever there was one.
