I'm so glad I found this. Thank you! My Mom played this on the piano so beautifully. She has Alzheimer's now but we bought her a keyboard for her room at her care home and she's just started playing. I couldn't find the music for this but so glad I found this for her to hear. Thank you!

I don't know if you know this but Gracie's real surname was Stansfield but she is not related to Lisa Stansfield although they both came from Lancashire.

My Gran Nettie Shorthouse sang this to me in a dream last night. She was so sweet and loving when I was very young, and she was i dire straits, virtually imprisoned in a tiny basment flat In Wimbledon Park. It broke her spirit. She died in 1959...of a broken heart, in my book.

Old enough to remember Dame Gracie Fields, thank goodness. I enjoy her 1956 recording of "Sally" because it is the full length version. I wish that she were to have sung that version at the 1978 Royal Command Performance; her voice by then was so much fuller and richer, operatic even.

My Dad used to call me 'Sally App erally' and I always wondered why. Over 60 years later I think I found out why when a 95 year old lady sang this to me!!!! It's 'up our alley!'.....Glad to have this precious lady sing this too me just as beautifully as Gracie and to tell me about the song. I would like to know more about the story behind this song. Can someone elaborate?

I was in primary school, I remember this song, along with all of her other songs. This is quite beautiful, along with it's melody.

Its fantastic how popular this 1956 recording is, proving Gracie recorded for 52 years from 1923-75. The new Gracie CD The Real Gracie 1928-60 has lots of gems on for Gracie fans everywhere!

This was song was being sung when Pope John Paul ii was leaving Ireland on his historic visit in 1978..or79. It was just a week after Gracie died....This song and "Now is the hour" were being sung as he left ..beautiful memory
