R.I.P. my friends. I went to the wall for the first time in 2009. I cannot convey the absolute emotional upheaval, and turmoil this simple yet striking monument brought upon me, even after 40 years. It was both cleansing, and confusing. I recommend it to everyone, veteran, and non veteran alike.

This is one of the most brutally honest songs about Vietnam.

I hear this song and it makes me thankful for our military of men and women that make this country what it is.  I would never live anyplace else.

I have family who participated in this gruesome war... They won't even talk about it though. I think I can understand why.

Drive On was the first Vietnam song that has ever gotten to me. I am a 72 year old Viet Nam Vet who served in 1967-1968. The song starts out expressing how it took so many years for people to appreciate and welcome home the VN Vet. To me Drive On means that the devil inside me cant conquer me. Forget all the lost glory and the anticipated accolades I expected coming home and never got.  Accept the fact that your children love you in spite of your  ghosts, and your wife stands by  you. You did the very best you could, you served your country well so now at this point in your life just DRIVE ON

My grandfather whose 69 was in NAM. Ever since I was Young He'd tell stories Nowadays im a little old to sit on his knee but I sit beside him and he'll tell me about his Days in Nam. He does it with a slight grin I always guessed He likes having someone to share it with. Im the only one he really talks to about it. And I feel honored. He says sometimes when he closes his eyes he can hear the whilst of mortors that rained on his site one night and one hit the Barracks he was in. he said that he was lucky but his friend wasn't. When he heard this song it brought a tear to his eye. He said he was proud to have served. This song became one of his favorite johnny cash songs. Because he said johnny hit the nail on the head with this song, and I can understand why. Because this song brings tears to my eyes cause I can kinda feel a snip of how a vietnam vet feels

Johnny you did it again on man of true words. This is a great song and done only they way the man in black could do it. He broke his leg jumping out of a plane. Whatever he did he with all that he had, even addiction. A trained paratrooper that knew war, even though he wasn't in it long. He knew prison, even though he had never been there. He had been locked up, but had a place in his heart for the guys in the big house. You can tell that by listening to Folsom prison. What a visionary. You can see something and feel exactly what it like , even though you hadn't experienced it. You are missed so much.

Johnny Cash is one of the best at cutting to the chase in his music. I find this song to be sadly haunting and extremely profound. Cash is one of only a few that could give us such a visual with his words for this particular subject matter. My heart goes out to all who were there and endured this period of time. Nobody came back unscathed. For those who came back, both with and without visible wounds, I hope you have found some healing and peace. You have my heart felt respect.

Anytime, I hear Johnny Cash sing, I can't help but recall an interview he did with Barbara Walters over twenty years ago, but there is only one thing that has really stuck with me. He was asked, "Do you believe in heaven?" Johnny said, "Yes, Barbara I do. Because I know there is a hell, I've been there and back." Any honest person knows Johnny speaks directly from the soul. The deeply and pervasively spiritual quality to his music is what really resonated with persons like me, and his countless fans. Rest In peace Johnny Cash, from one Vietnam vet to the others out there...this song Drive On, will always be one that strikes a nerve...MRP

Coming home from hell and getting spit on in the airport! Great senior trip Uncle Sam sent us on! OH and how many remember the speech they give you before you even get off the plane? " In a week over half of you will be dead, so look around if its not the guy next to its you!"

I lay down on my bed in the dark with my headphones on and every light in the house as brightly dark as the streetlights permit, and I turn on some old school Johnny cash and listen to his words walk me through the greatest television show my imagination has ever conjured up. Thank you Johnny cash.
