Just wow, how much different it sound compared to Dean Martins version! Cash's version almost sounds sad (in a good way)

Dylan's version is very similar if not the same as this In terms of vocals. Both incredible - so much emotion

Johnny covered it, (as did a host of others) it was written by Beasley Smith and words by Haven Gillespie in 1949

My Dad used to sing this song when I was little and until I looked it up here I thought it was talking about the man's SON who had died! Feeling a bit silly now.

In my opinion Johnny's and Jerry Reed's versions of this song is the best.

I learned this song from my dad when I was 3, and my mom was in the hospital having my brother, me and my dad were lying on the carpet, lying on our sides. A truly great memory, one of few.

Up in the mornin', out on a job Work like the devil for my pay While that lucky old sun got nothin' to do But roll around heaven all day A fuss with my woman, toil for my kids Sweat 'til I'm wrinkled and gray While that lucky old sun got nothin' to do But roll around heaven all day Good Lord up above, can't you hear me cryin' Tears all in my eyes Send down that cloud with your silvery linin' Lift lead to paradise Oh, show me that river, take me across Wash all my troubles away Like that lucky old sun gave me nothin' to do But roll around heaven all day Like that lucky old sun gave me nothin' to do But roll around heaven all day
