We were especially pleased when we found a recording—like Ray Charles singing “Come Rain or Come Shine”—where the words themselves were happy, but the interpretation was pure heartbreak.
– Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall (Kazuo Ishiguro)
I'm gonna love you, like no one loves you
Come rain or come shine
High as a mountain, deep as a river
Come rain or come shine
I guess when you met me
It was just one of those things
But don't ever bet me
'Cause I'm gonna be true if you let me
You gonna love me, like no one love me
Come rain or come shine
Happy together, unhappy together
Wouldn't it be fine
Days may be cloudy or sunny
We're in or we are out of the money, yeah
But I'm with you always
I'm with you rain or shine
You gonna love me, like nobody's loved me
Come rain or come shine
Happy together, unhappy together
Wouldn't it be fine
Days may be cloudy or sunny
We're in or we are out of the money, yeah
I'm with you always
I'm with you rain or shine

"Come Rain Or Come Shine"

But don't you ever bet me

Now won't that be just fine

I clearly remember when I first got into the Music of Ray Charles. I borrowed a friend`s LP in 1962 when I was 16. I put it into the front part of my Jacket and set off on my BSA 250 Motorbike, 7 miles to my Home. I made sure I got it back to my place in one piece because of the concerned look on my friend`s face as I set off.Ha Ha
I saw the Man himself in Concert, the next year, at The Hammersmith Odeon,London, Sunday 19th May 1963 with a group of Anglo-Indian Friends.(Christine & Guy Belchambers, where are you?) He Performed roughly 40+ Songs in two halves of the Show, which Blew us all away that afternoon. When the Long Silk pleated Curtains were rolled back, there was a never to be seen again Performance;
he was led on by one of The Raylettes in their Sparkling Gowns and he played a Number on the Saxophone. Then he sat down at the Piano and began to set it on fire with his fingertips.
He was 32 and Hotter than a Stolen Pistol.
