Read about this song in a book called "Waiting For The Sun - Strange Days, Weird Scenes, and The sound of Los Angeles". It talks about this solo, and how it was one of the first on pop records.
I heard James Burton say on Dwight Yoakam's radio show a little while ago that he believes "if you listen to it, this just may be the best rock and roll song ever recorded"! After hearing that comment, I decided to listen to it more closely and you know what? He may be right... High praise indeed from James Burton. He also said that he enjoyed playing with Ricky more than with Elvis. Rick Nelson, way underrated because of his folks' TV show etc. He was a great talent. Also read on Wiki that Johnny and Dorsey Burnette who wrote the song camped out on Ricky's front porch to pitch the song and Ricky gave in to their persistence and recorded it. Lucky for us he did!
