Gee but it’s great to be back home
Home is where I want to be.
I’ve been on the road so long my friend,
And if you came along
I know you couldn’t disagree.
Chorus
It’s the same old story
Everywhere I go,
I get slandered,
Libeled,
I hear words I never heard
In the bible
And I’m on step ahead of the shoe shine
Two steps away from the county line
Just trying to keep my customers satisfied,
Satisfied.
Deputy sheriff said to me
Tell me what you come here for, boy.
You better get your bags and flee.
You’re in trouble boy,
And you’re heading into more.
Chorus
OMG, I love this song! My older sisters had the album, so when I was about 10 or so I learned this along with the rest of the album. Haven't heard this song in YEARS and it came right back to me! Thanks so much for posting! (That was about 48 years ago!)
A long time ago I recorded about 300 oldies onto cassettes. I walked to a local mall, with the cassette player in my backpack, and listening to the cassettes on headphones. There was a piano player in the mall. I got him to put the headphones on and play the piano, playing along with Simon & Garfunkel while this recording was playing back. Quite a sound!
''Written by Paul on his alck of inspiration, it is absed on how he feared his music was not as popular and that he couldn't pleas ehis own "customers". So, let's "Try to keep the customer satisfied". ''
Hmmmm.... Always thought this song was about a drug dealer and his problems with lawmen...
