She belongs there left with her liberty
Never known as a non-believer
She laughs and stays in the one-one-one-wonderful
She knew how to gather the forest when
God reached softly and moved her body
One golden locket
Quite young and loving her mother and father
Farther down the path was a mystery
Through the recess, the chalk and numbers
A boy bumped into her one-one-one-wonderful
All fall down and lost in the mystery
Lost it all to a non-believer
And all that’s left is a girl
Who’s loved by her mother and father
She’ll return in love with her liberty
Chased away from the non believer
She’ll sigh and thank God for one- one- one- wonderful
Actually, the Beatles looked at it as competition as did at least Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.
The Beatles heard Pet Sounds, which inspired Sgt. Pepper.
When Brian heard Sgt. Pepper he was heartbroken, lamenting something along the lines "that they did it first".and the current smile project was soon abandoned/scraped.
It was actually released approximately 40 years later, including an album with the original studio instrumental and vocal takes, remixed at least to some extent. It is amazing
The melody in this is heavenly. Like, so heavenly, so pitch perfect, the mood is perfect in terms of how softly the lyrics is portrayed.
This is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my entire life, that THAT'S an extremely rare thing for me to say. It just hits everything right in what a song should be.
This is one of those tracks that you can never hear as good today as you've heard back then. It's a marvel.
Like all decent and reasonably well informed human beings, I hate Mike Love too, but the man who sang the low note in "I Get Around" is not talentless.
I think it's to say that there are only probably a few songs better than this; that the only people in his estimation who could have written them are Ellington, Berlin and McCartney and Brian is up there in the same league of excellence with them. For my own opinion this original version of Wonderful is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
